Ingredients

  • 5 cups peach slices peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Mixing bowls
  • Pastry cutter or fork
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and butter your baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. In a large bowl, toss sliced peaches with granulated sugar, ground cardamom, and lemon juice until evenly coated.
  3. Spread the coated peaches evenly in the prepared baking dish, creating a uniform layer.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt.
  5. Add cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients and cut in with a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the crumbly topping evenly over the peaches, covering the surface completely.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling around the edges.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly so the juices thicken. The crisp should emit a fragrant aroma and crackle gently when ready to serve.

Notes

Adjust the sugar and spice levels to taste. For extra crunch, sprinkle some chopped nuts on top before baking.
