Ingredients

  • 12 pieces fresh mozzarella balls small, bite-sized
  • 12 pieces black olives pitted, sliced or whole
  • 2 tablespoons basil pesto or balsamic glaze for drizzling

Equipment

  • Serving platter
  • Toothpicks or small tongs

Method

  1. Arrange the mozzarella balls on a serving platter, spacing them evenly.
  2. Use a small spoon or your fingers to gently press a black olive slice into the top center of each mozzarella ball, creating a dark 'pupil' for the eye.
  3. Once all the eyes are assembled, carefully drizzle basil pesto or balsamic glaze over the mozzarella balls for a bloodshot effect and added flavor.
  4. Optional: fix any uneven or loose olives with a tiny dab of pesto or balsamic to ensure they stay in place.
  5. Serve immediately on a platter, allowing the eerie, glossy appearance to wow your guests.

Notes

For best results, use small mozzarella balls and pitted black olives. You can also pre-cut olives for easier assembly. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve to maintain freshness.
